The Fortress of Brunella in Aulla

The Fortress of Brunella rises on a hill dominationg the valley of the Magra river, near the historic centre of Aulla. It is surrounded by a ditch.

The Fortress of Brunella was built in the first half of the XVI-th century and it represented the first example of fortification in Lunigiana.

The fortress has a rectangular shape and it is equipped by side towers and cannons.

During the Middle Ages it was possible to enter the fortress by using a drawbridge.

Todady the Fortress of Brunella hosts the "Museum of Natural History of the Lunigiana" and whose outside there is a botanical garden.
