On Spring 2001 a large convention was devoted to one of the most sacred holy images of Tuscany, the "Holy Face" visible in the cathedral of Saint Martino to Lucca. The convention gathered together the most eminent experts of history of the medieval art tso to define the state of the art of th researches on the several aspects of this sacred image.
The iconographical and iconological aspects, as well as those religious and liturgic of the Holy Face where examinated in deep.
New and always fascinating aspects and resonances of the lucchese work and the other Holy Faces present in Tuscany, where discovered and related with the historical medieval artistic context represente also by miniatures, frescoes, sculptures.
This volume represent the opening key of new frontiers of research and methodology for the understanding of objects and images still able to help us in better understanding the spirit of Middle Ages.
