Castiglion Fibocchi rises along the right bank of the Arno river.

The local economy is mainly based on the production of wheat, beets, chestnuts, olive oil, wine and on the activity of numerous industries working in the fields of the cloths making and of the wood manufacturing.

The place name probably comes from the compound of "castiglione", coming this latter from the Latin "castellum" with the meaning of "fortified place", and of "fibocchi", coming this latter from the compound of "filiis Bocchi", that literally means "Bocco's sons", with the German proper name of person "Bocco".

The village of Castiglion Fibocchi was founded during the Roman Age close to the important road called "Via Clodia", along which important trading activities developed.

During the XIII-th century the Pazzi's family imposed its power on the village. The toponym of the place name probably also comes from the name of Ottaviano of Pazzi's family, named "Bocco".

At that time the conflict between the two political factions of Guelphs (Papacy's supporters) and Ghibellines (Empire's supporters) was raging and the village of Castiglion Fibocchi, beat down from the events, put itself under the protection of the Republic of Siena in order to escape from the attacks of the Florentine Guelphs.

At the end of the XIV-th century the village of Castiglion Fibocchi was annexed to the domains of Siena but in 1384 the Florentine troops besieged and conquered it.

Entered the Florentine orbit, Castiglion Fibocchi was first annexed to the Podestà's seat of the close locality of Laterina and then it was governed by the Vicarship of Anghiati.

By coming the Medici's Grand Dukes to the power, in the XV-th century, the village of Castiglion Fibocchi was gave as a feud, with the title of Marquisate, to Alessandro del Borro.

At the beginning of the XVIII-th century the property of Castiglion Fibocchi passed by heritance to the Lorena's Dukes, who abolished the feudalism and elevated it to the rank of autonomous common. The village reached its municipality after the Unity of Italy occurred on 1861 by the action of the King Vittorio Emanuele II of Savoia.

Among the most important monuments to see in Castiglion Fibocchi we point out here the Chiesa di San Quirico (Saint Quirico Church), the Chiesa di Santa Maria a Pezzano (Saint Mary in Pozzano Church) and the Palazzo Comunale (Municipal Palace).

Among the numerous celebrations periodically taking place in Castiglion Fibocchi we remind the "Our Lady of the Rosary Feast" held yearly from the end of September to the beginning of October and during which some sport competitions, craftsmanship exhibits and shows of floral arrangements take place, followed by a procession and a religious mess.
