The Medieval village of Civitella in Val di Chiana

The village of Civitella in Val di Chiana rises on a hillock dominating the valleys below, surrounded by its ancient Medieval walls.

Along its ancient ring of walls it is also possible to see the remains of the gates that once allowed the access to the village, of which the "Porta Senese" saves still today its original stone-made building.

Of the fourteenth-century fortress remain today just a tower, representing the highest and most fortified part of the fortress, and its ring of walls.

Close to the fortress rises the ancient Podestà's Palace, whose actual building is the result of some restoration made during the XV-th century.

The facade of the palace is decorated with ensigns representing the numerous Podestàs who along the centuries alternated to govern the town.
