Tourism in Monte San Savino

The Museum of the Potteries of Monte San Savino

The Museum of the Potteries of Monte San Savino is hosted in the rooms of an ancient cassion (the highest part of a castle) dating back to the Middle Ages.

Once the caisson was surrounded by a ditch and it was possible to enter by a draw-bridge.

Today on the entrance it is still possible to see a shield portraying the Florentine lily (ensign of the city of Florence). Passing through the main portal opens a garden, from where it is possible to enter into the building.

The Museum of the Potteries of Monte San Savino

The building consists of three floors, where there are three expositions, whose inside it is possible to admire a collection of potteries made in Monte San Savino and also in the close towns.

Very interesting are the glazed earthenwares rich of decorations, dating back to the Middle Ages, and the polycrome majolicas, dating back to the Reinassance Age.

Among the numerous art work saved in the Museum of the Potteries of Monte San Savino we point out here a wooden Crucifix and a marble-made statue portraing "Our Lady with the Child".
