The Medieval village of Ortignano Raggiolo The territory along which the village of Ortignano Raggiolo extends is rich of chestnut-trees, from which the main local economic resource comes, marking the history of the Ortignano Raggiolo up. Inside the village it is possible to visit the "Ecological Museum of the Chestnut", to whose inside it is possible to admire numerous stands dedicated to the chestnuts picking and manufacturing and also the rebuildings of a drying room and a water mill. The village of Ortignano Raggiolo still saves today its tipically Medieval aspect, visible both in the remains of its ancient fortifications and in the narrow stone-made paved roads, along which the rural houses rise.
Photo Wikipedia Interesting to visit, in addition to the alredy quoted Ecological Museum of the Chestnut, are also the Saints Matthew and Margherita Parish, to whose inside it is possible to admire fine paintings by artistis from Siena, and the Saint Michael Church, built during the XVIII-th century. The interior of the Saint Michael has three aisles divided by pillars. It is enriched of very fine artistically art works like a seventeenth-century painting portraying an "Our Lady with the Child" and a little wooden statue, placed inside a tabernacle, portraying a "Saint Michael in the act of defeating the Drake".
