Tourism in Pratovecchio

The Medieval village of Pratovecchio

The suggestive village of Pratovecchio is surrounded by a rich wooden and floreal vegetation, showing a perfect balance between art and nature.

The village is characterized both by winding stone-made roads and squares, all saving their Medieval aspect.

Of the ancient buildings it is still possible to see the remains of the Medieval castle and the Saint Mary Church in Poppiena, whose building goes back to the XII-th century.

The church still saves a fine plate portraying an "Annunciation" painted by Giovanni del Ponte and a thirteenth-century fresco portraying an "Our Lady with the Child and Saints".

In the very heart of the village of Pratovecchio rises the Square entitled to the painter Paolo Uccello, who was born here.

All the urban squares as the Paolo Uccello's one have a characteristic porch, being this latter typical of the villages in the Casentino area.

Very interesting is also the Parish Church saving inside two important paintings dating back to the XVII-th century: that one placed on the right wall, painted by Jacopo Vignali (1592-1664) and portraying the "Delivery of the Keys to Saint Peter", and on the opposite wall the other one portraying the "Jesus' Circumcision" by Francesco Botti (1645-1711).
