The Saint Mary's Assumption Parish in Stia

The Saint Mary's Assumption Parish was built around the XII-th century on a pre-existing religious building.

On its right side rises a Medieval tower, that represents its belfry.

The interior, in Romanic style, has three aisles divided by stone-made columns.

Inside the baptistery, placed in the right aisle, it is possible to admire a marble-made baptismal font dating back to 1526 and a triptych painted in 1414 by Bicci di Lorenzo (1369-1452), portraying the "Annunciation". Along the right aisle is also placed a fine wooden pulpit dating back to 1584.

In the middle of the apse is placed a fine Crucifix, a wooden word made in the XIV-th century.

Inside the chapel, placed in the left side of the presbytery, is possible to admire numerous works, like a high-relief by Andrea della Robbia (1435-1525) portraying the "Our Lady with the Child" and a plate portraying the "Our Lady with the Child and two Angels", also known as the "Varlungo's Our Lady", from the name of who painted it, the Master Varlungo.
