Tourism in Gambassi Terme

The Saint Mary Parish in Chianni in Gambassi Terme

The Saint Mary Parish in Chianni was built in Romanic and Pisan styles at the end of the XII-th century, as showed by its facade equipped with three order of arches and blind galleries.

The interior shows a basilican plant with three aisles divided by columns, equipped this latter with fine capitals decorated with floral and anthropomorphous patterns, and a wooden ceiling with trusses.

On the second capitals it is possible to read an inscription probably quoting the name of the artist "Joh(annes) Bundivulus" who made the stone-made decorations on the capitals.

Very interesting are also the fine earth-made decorations of the choir, made in the XVI-th century by local artists like Cagni di Gambassi, and the earth-made washbasin placed inside the sacristy.
