Back to the town of Lastra a Signa

Tourism in Lastra a Signa

The Medieval village of Lastra a Signa

The town of Lastra a Signa is embraced by its ancient Medieval walls that are still almost undamaged.

Of the ancient urban structure just two of the three gates once gave access to the town are still visible: the Pisana Gate and the Baccio's Gate.

In the very heart of the historic centre of Lastra a Signa rises the Saint Mary Church at Lastra, whose building goes back to 1404.

The church still saves important art works like a painting by Francesco Conti portraying "Saint Rocco in Glory" and another one portraying an "Our Lady", dating back to the XIV-th century.

Very interesting are also the Podestà's Tabernacle, whose inside it is possible to admire a fresco dating back to the XVI-th century portraying an "Our Lady with the Child between the Saints John Baptist and Francis", and the Praetorian Palace, on whose facade it is possible to see the ensigns of the all Podestàs who governed Lastra a Signa.
