The Medieval village of Montaione

The village of Montaione saves still today the typical characteristics of its original building that are visible both in the remains of its ancient ring of walls and of its fortifications and in the urban organization along three main parallel roads.

The Saint Regolo Church is the most ancient religious building of the town, whose building goes back to the XII-th century.

The church shows its original aspect thanks to the numerous restorations made during the centuries that also leaded to build a bell tower.

Among the numerous art works saved inside the Saint Regolo Church , probably the most interesting one is a painting portraying an "Our Lady with the Child".

On right side of the church rises the fifteenth-century Praetorian Palace, showing on its facade some heraldic marble and earthen made shields.

The Praetorian Palace hosts the "Municipal Museum" where it is possible to admire a collection of minerals and numerous archaeological finds came to light in the territory of Montaione.
