The Saint Mary of the Pity Church in Bibbona

The Saint Mary of the Pity Church was built around fifteenth century on a pre-existing chapel that, according to the tradition, saved inside a Our Lady’s picture.

It was built in 1492 by Ranieri Tripalle on a Vittorio Ghiberti’s design and in 1577 some monks of the Saint Mary in Vico Masio Abbey moved to the building.

On the lintels of the church it is possible to see some incisions about passages from the Bible.

The Saint Mary of the Pity Church is on the plant of a Greek cross and it is characterized by limbs surmounted by vaults. Inside the main earthen-made dome presents many insertions on the rock.

The Saint Mary of the Pity Church saves several valuable frescoes such as the Trinity painted by Cesare Dandini.
