The Villa of the Mills in Portoferraio
Between 1814 and 1815 the Villa of the Mills was the official residence of Napoleone and his court. Today the Villa belonged to the "National Museum of the Napoleone’s Residences".
The Villa of the Mills has a large garden where it is possible to enjoy a wonderful sight on the town.
The interiors were decorated by Vincenzo Revelli according to the Napoleone’s wills.
Inside it is possible to admire a collection of 250 books once belonged to the private Napoleone’s Library.
Very interesting are also the interior decorations like the furniture, the weapons and the paintings belonged to Napoleone and his sister Paolina Bonaparte.
On the ground floor is placed a painting by Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825) portraying "Napoleone at the Grand Saint Bernardo" and on the same floor it is possible to visit the Emperor’s rooms, like his office, hall and his bedroom and also the "Officers’ Room".
On the first floor opens a large hall, once used for the court parties, whose inside it is possible to admire the marble-made Napoleone’s chest by Francois Rude (1784-1855) and the other one portraying Paolina Bonaparte and also a painting by Pierre Prudhon (1758-1823) portraying "Napoleone II King of Italy".
