Tourism in Villa Basilica

The Medieval village of Villa Basilica

The territory of Villa Basilica, surrounded by green mountains, saves the interesting remains of its ancient Medieval fortifications, among them the remains of a fortress and of its ring of walls equipped with towers.

In the very heart of the historic centre of Villa Basilica, the Saint Mary of the Assumption Church rises on the main square. It was built between the XII-th and XIII-th century on the remains of a pre-Romanic church. The interior has three aisles and saves numerous fine art works, among them a Crucifix made by Berlinghiero Berlinghieri (XII-th - XIII-th century), placed on the second altar along the right aisle.

Very interesting are also the numerous and fine elegant palaces. Among them, the Municipal Palace, built in the XVII-th century, that saves fine frescoes, and the Parish's Palace, to whose inside it is possible to admire a collection of Flemish paintings dating back to the XVII-th century, some valuable jewels and a painting portraying an "Our Lady of the Carmine" by Franchi.
