Tourism in Filattiera

The Medieval village of Filattiera

The territory of Filattiera is rich of Medieval fortified buildings like castles, tower-houses and the remains of the walls that once were part of defensive structure of the town.

The most ancient part of the village rises on an elevated position. Very interesting to see is the Romanic Church entitled to Saint George.

The religious building saves a tombstone dating back to the VIII-th, on which it is possible to see an epigraph quoting the name of a person who was buried there and to whom is attributed the merit to have professed the Christian cult in the area.

Going downhill it is possible to reach the Parish of Sorano, a typical Roman building, entitled to Saint Stephen, who is the Patron Saint of Filattiera.

Of its original building it is still possible to see just the external walls of the side aisles, its three apses and one of the three ancient statue-steles came to light during some recent archaeological excavations.
