Tourism in Villafranca in Lunigiana

The Medieval village of Villafranca in Lunigiana

The town of Villafranca in Lunigiana rises on an elevated position, dominating the valley of the Magra river and saving the marks of its typical Medieval village in numerous examples of buildings dating back to that time.

Of its ancient Medieval fortification, today it is still possible to see the remains of the so called "Malnido Castle", an ancient Malaspina's residence, whose around the first urban settlement developed.

Very interesting to visit is the Saint Francis Church, entirely rebuilt during the XX-th century, that saves some fine Della Robbia's policrome earthenware.

Paricularly interesting to visit is also the "Ethnographical Museum of the Lunigiana area", located inside an ancient mill.

The museum documents the life and culture of the population of the Lunigiana area and inside it is possible to admire a collection of agricultural, pastoral, artisan and daily used tools.
