Tourism in Castelnuovo di Val di Cecina

The Medieval village of Castelnuovo di Val di Cecina

The village of Castelnuovo di Val di Cecina is placed on a hillock of the Metallifere hills, surrounded by its ancient ring of walls.

It saves its untouched urban structure that develops around the Saints Giacomo and Philip Church and arranged according to concentric rings.

In the middle of this territory, rich of mineral resources and natural springs, rise the Etruscan-Roman Thermal Baths in the locality of Sasso Piano.

The buildings, whose foundation goes back to the Late Hellenistic Age, are the most ancient of the town and continued the activity up to the III-th century A.C..

The thermal baths consisted of numerous buildings joined all together and opening on a large garden. As testified by the numerous inscriptions on some roof tiles, the thermal baths were destined to the public use.
