Tourism in Peccioli

The Medieval village of Peccioli

The village of Peccioli develops around the remains of the ancient castle built during the Middle Ages, surrounded by olive-trees, vineyards and green hills, still saving today numerous and interesting examples of typical architectures dating back to the XII-th century.

In the heart of the historic centre rises the Saint Verano Church, showing the original features of its fourteenth-century building. Its facade, in Romanic and Pisan style, was restored in its ancient aspect during the XIX-th century.

From the Saint Verano Church it is possible to enter an oratory, where it is possible to admire some frescoes painted on the ceiling and portraying Biblical pictures, painted by Jacopo Vignali (1592-1664) and by Neri di Bicci (1419-1491).

Very interesting is also the Museum of the Russian Icons. It is located in the rooms of the Praetorian Palace and saves a collection of sixty Russian icons dating back to the XIX-XX-th century. The collection was gave to the common of Peccioli by the journalist Francesco Bigazzi.
