The Medieval village of Santa Maria a Monte

The village of Santa Maria a Monte shows the typical Medieval aspect, being equipped with a single road along which the village developed.

The territory is rich of numerous examples of Medieval buildings, among them the Praetorian Palace distinguishes, on whose facade it is possible to admire numerous fine ensigns.

The Saint John Evangelist Collegiate Church is probably the oldest religious building of the town.

It is equipped with an ancient bell tower that along the centuries was subdued to numerous restoration works in order to restore its ancient features, as well as occurred to the whole Collegiate Church.

The visit to the Saint John Evangelist Collegiate Church is particularly interesting because it was entirely painted by Luigi Ademollo (1764–1849) and saves inside ancient and fine sculptures like a pulpit held by two columns standing on two lions, dating back to the XIII-th century, a marble-made baptismal font with bass-relieves, made by Domenico di Giovanni Rosselli, a wooden sculpture dating back to the XIV-th century and portraying "Crucified Christ" and another one made by policrome wood and built during the XIII-th century, portraying an "Our Lady on the Throne and the Child".

Borgo medievale posto sulle colline delle Cerbaie. Nel Mille il castello divenne proprietà di Castruccio Castracani, successivamente nel 1400 fu trasformato in villa dagli Albizi e fu passato per eredità ai Pucci. Nella chiesa di San Pietro, localizzata nel borgo, è sepolto il Marchese Giuseppe Pucci, noto collezionista di opere d`arte e viaggiatore,fondatore della Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze. Infine Pozzo passò ai Bourbon Del Monte e poi ai Boncompagni - Ludovisi.

Recentemente il borgo è stato restaurato e trasformato in albergo.
