Tourism in San Marcello Pistoiese

The Medieval village of San Marcello Pistoiese

The village of San Marcello Pistoiese rises dipped in a wonderful natural landscape, where it is possible to take some paths to discover a varied and rich vegetation.

The actual urban plant is the result of some recent structural modifications that have leaded to the building of a new middle square and thus the moving of all the urban centre around it.

The Saint Marcello Parish is one of the most ancient buildings of the town. Its building goes back to the XIII-th century and during the XVII-th century it was restored.

Inside the religious building it is possible to admire a cycle of frescoes painted on the dome by Giuseppe Gricci, a painting portraying a "Cross' Invention", painted by Agostino Ciampelli, and a wax-made statue portraying "Ecce Homo" (Here is the Man), made by Zumbo.

In the close locality of Campo Tizzoro it is also possible to visit the "Archaeological Naturalistic Centre of the Apennine of Pistoia", where there is a collection of archaeological finds dating back to the Prehistoric Age.
