The Cathedral of Colle di Val d'Elsa

The Cathedral was built at the beginning of the XVII-th century on a Romanic pre-existing parish. During the next century the Cathedral was entirely restored.

The interior saves fine and valuable art works. In the middle of the main aisle it is possible to admire a fine pulpit with some bassrelieves dating back to the XIV-th and XV-th centuries.

Nearby the main altar is placed a fine bronzy Crucifix that is a work of both Tacca (1577-1640) and Giambologna (1529-1608), who were two famous sculptors.

Inside the first chapel on the right it is possible to admire the altar and some paintings by Giovanni Paolo Melchiorri whereas, in the second chapel, there are the paintings of Deifebo Burbarini dating back to 1635.

The interior of the fourth chapel is rich of frescoes painted by Astolfo Petrazzi and it is also possible to admire an altar made by Rutilio Manetti (1571-1639).

Close to the right transept is placed the "Cappella del Chiodo" (Chapel of the Nail) that saves a fifteenth-century marble-made tabernacle of Florentine manufacture.

Inside the chapel of the left transept it is possible to admire the "Last Supper" painted by Ottavio Tannini and inside the baptistery there are two paintings by Cosimo Gamberucci.

Along the left side other four chapels are placed, where it is possible to admire: some fine late seventeenth-century frescoes by Francesco Nasini (1621-1695), an altar by Niccolò Tornioli, two paintings by Giovanni Rosi and an altar and some paintings both made by Filippo Tarchiani.
