The Saint Salvatore Abbey in Castelfranco di Sopra The Saint Salvatore Abbey was built in the XIV-th century by the monks from Vallombrosa on a pre-existing castle. The abbey was restored during the XV-th century and, after its abolishment occurred in 1776, it was bought by the State and restored. The interior of the Saint Salvatore Abbey show the plant of a Greek cross and it is rich of fine frescoes painted by great artists. Among them, a "Stories about Saint John Gualberto's life" by Bicci di Lorenzo (1369-1452), an "Annunciation" by Giovanni di ser Giovanni (1406-1486) and an "Our Lady on the Throne with the Child and the Saints Lazzaro and Michael Archangel".

Very valuable are also the frescoes painted on the lunette, portraying "Christ in Pity", and on the footpace, portraying "Christ's Apparition to Saint Peter", an "Annunciation" and the "Saint Francis' Stigmatas", all painted by Paolo di Schiavo. Inside the religious builing it is also possible to admire an "Our Lady with the Child between the Saints Peter and Francis" painted by Paolo di Schiavo and the "Innocents' Massacre" attributed to Liberato da Rieti. Close to the Saint Salvatore Abbey rises a building, once was a convent, equipped by a fine little choister.
