The Saint Lorenz Collegiate Church in Montevarchi

The Saint Lorenz Collegiate Church was built before the thirteenth century. It was restored and enlarged on a design by the architect Massimiliano Soldani Benzi (1656-1740) during the eighteenth century.

The interior is built on the plant of a Latin cross.

Remarkable is the main altar surmounted by a sculpture made by Giovanni Baratta (1670-1747) portraying "Our Lady in Glory and two Angels".

Close to the main altar are placed a reliquary showing the shape of a temple and holding the relics of the "Sacro Latte" (Holy Milk), a little bronzy statue made by Massimiliano Soldani Benzi (1656-1740) portraying Our Lady and finally an seventeenth-century tabernacle in which is placed a ceramic polycrome ware-made half chest portraying "Our Lady with the Child".

From the main altar it is possible to admire a dome that was entirely painted at the beginning of the eighteenth century by Matteo Bonechi (1669-1756).

In the left transept it is possible to see a fine paint by Matteo Rosselli (1578-1650) portraying the "Magi's Adoration" and a valuable painting by Carlo Maratta portraying "Our Lady on the Throne and Saints".
