The Saint Verdiana Church in Castelfiorentino

The Saint Verdiana Church was built on a pre-existing Oratory, once entitled to Saint Anthony.

In 1771 Bernardo Fallani rebuilt the facade of the church and later a porch and two earthenware-made statues, built by the Belgian sculptor Ignazio Miert, were added to the church.

The interior has three aisles: the middle one was painted by Alessandro Gherardini (1655-1726).

On the lateral altars it is possible to admire the "Charity of Saint Thomas from Villanova" painted by Simone Pignoni (1611-1698) and the "Saint Francis' Stigmatas" by Orazio Fidani (1606-1656).

Very interesting also are the ten little domes decorated with "Saint Verdiana's Tells" painted by several artists like Ranieri del Pace, Niccolò Lapi (1661-1732) and Agostino Veracini (1689-1762).

By the middle aisle it is possible to enter an underground room where, according to the tradition, Saint Verdiana spent thirty-four years of her life in full solitude and prayer.
