The Saint Mary Parish in Dicomano

The Saint Mary Parish is probably the oldest building in the city of Dicomano.

Its building time goes back to the XI-th century but, because of the damages subdued during the centuries, it was entirely rebuild first in 1924, by the architect Ezio Cerpi (1868-1958), and then in 1975.

From the left side of the parish rises an imposing belfry that probably was an original part of the castle built by the Guidi Counts.

The interior of the Saint Mary Parish saves the Romanic form of its original building. It has three aisles held up by pillars and a covered roof with trusses.

On the internal facade it is possible to admire two valuable paintings. One of them, coming from some Florentine workshops and dating back to the XVIII-th century, portrays the "Crucifixion" whereas the other one, painted by Giacomo Conti, portrays an "Our Lady with the Saints Giacomo and Romualdo".

In the middle aisle there is a fine stone-made pulpit dating back to the XVII-th century.

Along the right side it is possible to admire a glazed earthenware made by Santi Buglioni (1494-1576), portrayng the "Meeting between Mary and Saint Joseph", an "Our Lady with the Child and Saints" painted by Agostino Melissi (1616-1683) and at the bottom of the aisle there is a sixteenth-century plate painted by Cosimo Gamberucci (1560-1621), portraying the "Magi's Nativity and Adoration".

Besides close to the main altar it is also possible to admire a painting portraying the "Our Lady's Assumption" within its original frame made by Francesco Curradi (1570-1661), a tabernacle for holy oils coming from the Della Robbia's workshop and a tryptich portraying an "Our Lady between the Saints Anthony Abbot and Peter" painted in the XV-th century by Ventura di Moro (1395-1486).
