Back to the town of Castel del Piano

Tourism in Castel del Piano

The Medieval village of Castel del Piano

The ancient village of Castel del Piano still saves the original features of its building and it is surrounded by its Medieval walls.

Remarkable is the Saint Nicholas and Lucy Church, also known as "Chiesa dell'Opera" (Church of the Opera), that faces the Piazza della Madonna (Our Lady's Square).

The interior of the Saint Nicholas and Lucy Church was built on the plant of a Latin cross with a single aisle and ten lateral chapels, whose inside it is possible to admire numerous art works that were painted by the local painters of the Nasini's family.

Among them an "Our Lady with the Child", an "Our Lady's Nativity" by Giuseppe Nicola Nasini (1657-1736) and an "Our Lady in Glory with Saints". Close to the second altar there is a fine painting by Domenico Manetti (1609-1663), portraying "Saint Cerbone's Miracle".

In the oldest part of the town, that is reachable crossing through the gate of the Tower of the Watch, it is possible to admire numerous palaces dating back to the Late Reinassance and also fine buildings saving typical Medieval features.

Very interesting is also the fifteenth-century made Saint Leonard Church.
