Tourism in Castell`Azzara

The Medieval village of Castell'Azzara

The village of Castell'Azzara saves still today the characteristic features of its original building, visibile in numerous fine palaces like the Holiest Trinity Convent and the Sforza's Villa.

The Holiest Trinity Convent rises along an area surrounded by a rich and thick wood vegetation. It was built for the will of the Aldobrandeschi's Counts and later it was restored by the Sforza's family.

The Holiest Trinity Convent, also called "Convent of the Forest", saves fine art works like an earthenware portraying a "Crucifix with Cherubs", coming from the Della Robbia's workshop, and a plate painted by Girolamo di Benvenuto (1470-1524) portraying an "Annunciation".

Interesting to visit is also the Sforza's Villa that the cardinal Alessandro Sforza made built according to the original Renaissance style in order to host the Pope Gregorio XIII.
