Tourism in Civitella Paganico

The Medieval village of Civitella Paganico

The village extends from the top of a hill going down up to the valley below, in the green belt of a rich vegetation, saving its ancient defensive walls, along which open three gates surmounted by imposing arches.

On the highest part of the village there is the municipal seat of Civitella Paganico, where it is possible to admire the Saint Lorenz Abbey, showing this latter a fine Romanic stone-made facade.

Going downhill it is possible to reach the Saint Michael Parish, built during the XIV-th century and equipped with an eighteenth-century bell tower.

The interior has just an aisle and along its right wall it is possible to admire a fifteenth-century fresco portraying "Saint Christopher".

Close to the main altar it is also possible to admire another fresco portraying an "Our Lady with the Child and Saints", painted by Guidoccio Cozzarelli (1450-1516), and a wood-made tabernacle painted by the Riccio (1500-1571). Another cycle of frescoes is visible in the choir, entirely painted by Biagio di Goro Ghezzi (1350-1384) and Andrea di Niccolò.
