Tourism in Roccastrada

The Medieval village of Roccastrada

The village of Roccastrada has a typical Medieval aspect as testified by the highest part of the town, name the "Cassero" (fortress), where it is possible to admire the remains of its Medieval walls and the ancient rural houses rising along tortuous paths.

In the oldest part of the village it is also possible to admire the thirteenth-century Saint Nicholas Parish showing on its facade an inscription quoting its building date, dating back to 1283.

The interior of the Saint Nicholas Parish was rebuilt in the XVIII-th century according to the plant of a Latin cross.

The building still saves today some frescoes by Giovanni Maria di ser Giovanni Tolosani portraying an "Our Lady with the Child" and an "Annunciation" and also a fine baptismal font showing a Late Renaissance style.

Very interesting is also the Our Lady of the Graces Church saving a fine fresco portraying "Christ in Pity with the Sorrowful people", attributed to Giovanni Maria di ser Giovanni Tolosani.

Remarkable is also the "Museum of Vineyard and Wine of Roccastrada" that documents the local vine tradition by exposing a collection of agricultural tools and photos portraying the rural life and the vineyard cultivation.
