The Medieval village of Campo nell'Elba The village of Campo nell'Elba is particularly suggestive also because it still saves today thousand-year-old traditions like the fishing activity and the granite-rock manufacturing carrying them out according to traditional tecniques. The historic centre develops at the slopes of an ancient Pisan tower called "Tower of Marina di Campo" and it has its middle centre in the main town square, the "Piazza Giovanni da Verrazzano". Among the most interesting religious buildings to visit there is the Saint Nicholas Church, whose inside are still visible today some pieces of fiftennth-century frescoes. According to some popular legends, the Saint Nicholas Church was built on the place where once a Roman temple rose. Very interesting to see is also a "fence" visible on the Cocchero mount, consisting of some granite-made columns dating back to the Roman Age testifying the mining activity during the Roman domination.
