The Medieval village of Rosignano Marittimo

Rosignano Marittimo is a village characterized by the typical Medieval features. Its rural houses and stone-made roads lies within the remains of its ancient ring of walls.

Of its ancient fortifications are still visible today four towers, two of them were stone-made during the Medici's domination: the first one is placed in the western part of the town whereas the other one in the eastern part of the town. Once the weastern tower hosted the Municipal offices, whereas the other one was the prison of the castle, of which it is still possible to see uts gate.

Outside the ring of walls rises the Saints John and Ilario Church still showing the Romanic features of its original building, despite the numerous modifications subdued along the last centuries.

In the oldest part of the town rise numerous sixteenth-century buildings, among them the Bombardieri's Palace, whose inside hosts the "Civic Archaeological Museum", consisting this latter of a collection of archaeological finds coming from the close towns and also fine art works, like a alabaster-made urn dating back to the II-th century B. C..

Very artistically and culturally interesting are the Vestrini's Palace, that is seat of a "Historical Archives", and the Marini's Palace, hosting a permanent exhibit of contemporary art and a room entirely dedicated to the sculptor Filidei (1914-1980).
