The Medieval village of Suvereto

The village of Suvereto is a typical example of Medieval fortified architecture: on the highest part of the twon there is still today a Medieval fortress surrounded by its ancient walls.

The historic centre saves the marks of its Medieval building too. It develops along two main roads, with steep paths and staircases, whose top rural houses rise.

Once passed through one of the ancient gates of the town it is possible to reach the Saint Giusto Parish, whose building goes back to the XII-th century. The religious building shows on its facade a rich symbolic decoration and a main portal surmounted by a round arch, held this latter by decorated columns.

Very interesting are also the Saint Mary Church and the Municipal Palace, being this latter characterized by a fine gallery, called "Judges' Gallery", and built in Gothic style during the XIII-th century.

The Saint Mary Church, also called Church of "On the Door", shows on its portal a lunette portraying a "Blessing Redeemer". Inside the church it is possible to admire a fifteenth-century painting inside a marble-made frame portraying a "Virgin Mary with the Child".
