Tourism in Piazza al Serchio

The Medieval village of Piazza al Serchio

The village of Piazza al Serchio still shows today a tipically Medieval aspect, thanks to its numerous, fine and untouched buildings.

In the territory of Piazza al Serchio it is possible to visit the characteristic "Saint Michael's Village" that shows its untouched Medieval rural houses, its stone-made paved roads and an ancient stone-made bridge, dating back to the Middle Ages too.

Of its ancient Medieval fortification, the village saves also the remains of an ancient tower named "Castelletto" (little castle), placed in the close locality of Cogna.

Interesting to visit are also the religious buildings, among them the Church of Piazza al Serchio, whose building goes back to the XVIII-th century, the Romanic Saint Mary of the Assumption Church in Borsigliana and the Saint Anastasio Church, saving inside fine paintings.

The Saint Mary of the Assumption Church is preceded by a Romanic facade, enriched of a fine Romanic sculpture. Inside it is possible to admire an altarpiece dating back to the XV-th century and portraying an "Our Lady with the Child and Saints".
