Tourism in Fivizzano

The Medieval village of Fivizzano

The village of Fivizzano is a typical example of fortified village dating back to the Middle Ages and showing a lengthened plant.

Once arrived to Fivizzano it is possible to reach its historic centre by passing through one of its ancient gates, the "Sarzanese Gate", also called the "Florentine Gate".

Walking along the Umberto I street it is possible to admire very interesting buildings like the Little Church of the Prisons, saving a fine painting by some Florentine artist, dating back to the XVII-th century.

Very interesting is also the Medici's Square, that is one of the oldest part of the town, whose middle is placed a seventeenth-century fountain, being this latter built for the will of the Grand Duke Cosimo III of Medici.

The Medici's Square is also surrounded by numerous buildings, like the Saints Jacopo and Anthony Provostship.

The interior of this latter, equipped with three aisles, saves numerous art works like a painting portraying the "Lazzaro's Resurrection", painted by Pietro Sorri.

Inside it is also possible to admire, close to the choir, a lunette portraying the "Pity" and two sixteenth-century plates portraying "Saint Sebastiane and Saint Rocco".
