The Marsh of Bientina The Marsh of Bientina rises along the area extending from the Pisana mount to the Cerbaie hills. Once it was the main resource for the population up to its definitive reclaim occurred on the second half of the XIX-th century. Today the Marsh of Bientina is one of the most important floral and faunal oasis in Italy, where it is possible to walk some naturalistic paths among the green belt of a rich and different vegetation In the western side of the Marsh of Bientina rises the protected area called "Bosco Tanali" (Tanali wood) extending along the slopes of the Pisano mount, one hundred fifty-three hectares wide. This wood surface is used to pasture. The area is particularly interesting because consists of lakes, grass, canebrakes and pine-woods, being this latter formed by black alders, white poplars and elder-trees. There are also numerous rare floral species like the flourishing bracken. The faunal species are hosted in their natural habitat, where it is possible admire different marsh birds like the penduline, of Asian origin, the "cannaiola" and the "salciaiola", being this latter typical of Mediterranean countries. There are also numerous migratory birds like the ashen heron, the river nightingale, the marsh bunting and the "garzetta".
