The Saint John Baptist Parish in Pomarance

In the very heart of the historic centre of Pomarance rises the Saint John Baptist Parish, of ancient building. It shows a simply facade in Romanic style.

The religious building is attended from those wanting to admire some of the best art works painted in the XVI-th century by the two local painters Niccolò Cercignani (1516-1597) and Cristoforo Roncalli (1552-1626).

The interior has three aisles, entirely painted by Luigi Ademollo (1764–1849). On the internal facade it is possible to admire a fourteenth-century fresco by artists from Siena, portraying the "Our Lady of the goldfinch".

Once entered the religious building it is possible to admire on the right a fresco by Vincenzo Tamagni (1492-1537) placed inside the Baptistery, portraying a "Crib".

Close to altars it is possible to admire valuable paintings like that one placed on the first right altar portraying an "Our Lady of the Rosary", painted by Niccolò Cercignani (1516-1597) and the other one placed on the first left altar portraying an "Annunciation" by Cristoforo Roncalli (1552-1626).

Very interesting is also the Saint John Chapel placed in the left aisle. It saves a plate portraying an "Our Lady and Saints" painted in the XVI-th century by Vincenzo Tamagni (1492-1537).
