The Cathedral of Pontedera The Cathedral, entitled to Saint Faustino, was built on a Neoclassical style in the second half of nineteenth century. The interior of the Cathedral has three aisles divided by columns surmounted by Corinthian capitals. The interiors are embellished by valuable paint as the "Holy Hearth" by Silvestro Pistolesi and some mosaics portraying the "Via Crucis". The Cathedral saves inside several art works made by great artists like the Empoli portraying the "Annunciation" and "Our Lady with the Child" painted by Jacopo Chimenti (1554-1640). On the main altar is placed a remarkable bronzy crucifix by Francesco Nagni (1897-1977). Inside the Cathedral it is possible to admire the Cappella del Sacramento (Chapel of the Sacrament) that was painted entirely by Dilvo Lotti. In the right transept are placed the relics of the martyr Saint Faustino, protector of the town. The belfry rising by the back of the Cathedral was built in 1958 with a spire covered by copper, but because of structural problems it subdued several interventions that conduced to the removing of that same spire.
