The Medieval village of Vaiano The village of Vaiano rises in an elevated position surrounded by green hills, offering to its visitors wonderful natural sceneries and fine Medieval buildings. The Saint Salvatore Abbey is one of the most important buildings of Vaiano, due to its activity in supporting the local community along the centuries. It was founded in 1073 by some Benedictine monks and later it passed to the Vallombrosiani monks up to 1808 when it was abolished. Of this imposing convent, today remains only the Saint Salvatore Church, rebuilt during the XI-th century and equipped with a bell tower dating back to the XIV-th century.
Foto Wikipedia Inside the church it is possible to admire numerous paintings, among them those ones made by Giovanni Maria Butteri portraying an "Our Lady with the Child" and a "Crucifixion".
