The Medieval village of Montale The village of Montale still saves today some traces of its Medieval fortifications, visible in the remains of the Castle rising on the top of the highest part of the town and that represents the original settlement of the village. In the oldest part of the town rises the Saint Salvatore Abbey, whose building goes back to the XI-th century. The interior of the religious building was built with just an aisle according to a Latin cross. Very interesting to visit are also the Saint Michael Church, whose inside it is possible to admire a wall painting by Ardengo Soffici (1879-1964), portraying a "Saint Francis in the action to make some water gush from a rock", and the Parish Church of Montale.
Photo © Wikipedia Of its origiinal building the Parish saves just few traces in the external walls and in the choister.
