Tourism in Piteglio

The Medieval village of Piteglio

The territory of Piteglio is covered by a thick wood vegetation, among which it is possible to see the ruins of the ancient Medieval castles, placed in highest position dominating the surrounding valleys.

The village gathers at the slopes of a square tower that once was a part of an ancient castle and today it is used as belfry of the Saint Mary of the Assumption Parish.

This latter was built during the XIII-th century and restored more times along the centuries.

Inside it is possible to admire fine wooden furnitures.

Inside the "Chapel of the Our Lady of the Milk", whose entrance is surmounted by a finely decorated stone-made arch, there are numerous fine paintings.

Close to the village of Piteglio it is also possible to visit the Holiest Our Lady Parish, also name "Old Parish". The religious building was built during the XI-th century and today it still saves the characteristic feautures of its original building, with the exception of the interior part that was restored along the centuries.
