The Medieval village of Sambuca Pistoiese The village of Sambuca Pistoiese rises dipped into the green belt of a rich wood vegetation of chestnut-trees and beech-trees, from which numerous Medieval castle rise saving the characteristic marks of their original building. Among the ancient Medieval fortifications, particularly interesting to visit are the remains of the Castle of Sambuca, that saves just some rests of its ancient ring of walls, and the ruins of a thirteenth-century tower. In the very heart of the historic centre of Sambuca Pistoiese it is possible to admire the Saint Giacomo Church, saving this latter just few traces of its Romanic original building. The interior has three aisles, resul of an eighteenth-century restoration, enriched with some fine furnitures and holy ornaments. Very interesting is also the Saint Michael Archangel Church, placed in the close locality of Treppio. The building, built during the XVII-th century, is preceded by a facade covered by sandstone ashler, on which a fine portal opens. Inside a niche placed close to the portal there is a statue portraying "Saint Michael". Inside the church it is also possible to admire some fascinating paintings by differen artists, dating back to the XVII-th century.
