The Saint Salvatore Abbey in Abbadia San Salvatore The Saint Salvatore Abbey was built during the High Middle Ages and then it was restored at the end of the XVI-th century. The abbey has a Romanic facade and two belfries that are embellished with little arches. The interior is on the plant of a Latin cross and has just an aisle. On the right wall it is possible to admire a wooden Crucifix dating back to the XII-th century and on the opposite wall there is a painting portraying the "Saint Bartolomeo's Martyrdom", painted by Francesco Nasini (1621-1695). The two chapels placed at the two sides of the presbitery were painted by Francesco and Annibale Nasini. Inside the chapel in the right it is possible to admire a fresco portraying the "Rachis' Legend" whereas inside the other one, the "Annunciation", the "Presentation to the Temple", the "Visitation" and the "Assumption".
By the interior of the Saint Salvatore Abbey it is possible to reach a seventeenth-century cloister, from where it is possible to enter two rooms that host a museum saving some valuable handiworks, like a reliquary-case dating back to the VIII-th century, a reliquary-chest dating back to 1381 and a policrome maiolica floor dating back to the XV-th century. Very interesting is also the crypt showing a structure on thirty-six columns that are very particular both for their shape and their different decorations. It is supposed that it goes back to the VIII-th century.
