The Saint Francis Church in Asciano

The Saint Francis Church was built between the XIII-th and XIV-th centuries in Romanic and Gothic styles. The church was restored during the XVII-th century.

The interior of the Saint Francis Church has just an aisle and it shows an uncovered roof beam.

The walls show numerous fine frescoes coming from the Siena’s workshops like the "Christ’s Tales" and "Saint’s Tales" painted by Jacopo di Mino del Pellicciaio and the "Passion’s Tells" painted during the XIII-th and XIV-th centuries and also some frescoes portraying some Saints.

Very interesting is the presbiterial right chapel that is finely decorated with frescoes dating back to XIII-th and XIV-th centuries like the "Martyrdom of Saint Caterina d’Alessandria".

Inside the main chapel it is possible to admire numerous traces of frescoes and noble ensigns and also some fake-marble-made decorations.

The Saint Francis Church saves also a fine plate coming from the Della Robbia’s worshop, portraying "Our Lady with the Child and Angels" and a marble-made fount built by Antonio Ghini.
