The Medieval village of Monticiano The village of Monticiano rises on a hill within the remains of its Medieval walls, equipped by its ancient towers from which it is possible to enjoy a wonderful sight on the valley below. At the entrance of the village rises the "Saint Augustine Church", whose building goes back to the Late Roman Age. The interior of the church shows its Gothic style and it is rich of fourteenth-century frescoes by different artists from Siena, like that one portraying the "Blessed Patrick's Death" painted by Rutilio Manetti (1571-1639). Close to the Saint Augustine Church there is a convent that hosted some Augustan monks. Inside the church it is possible to admire numerous frescoes like an "Our Lady on the Throne with Saint Augustine and the Blessed Patrick", painted by a painter coming from Siena. In the oldest part of the town it is also possible to admire the Saints Giusto and Clemente Parish, whose building goes back to the XII-th century. The parish shows a finly decorated portal, surmounted by a simply facade made by ashlar rocks. The church saves very interesting art works, among them a fourteenth-century wooden Crucifix placed on the main altar and a fresco dating back to the XIV-th century portraying "Sowwowful people", placed inside the right chapel.
