The Saint Francis Church in Piancastagnaio

The Saint Francis Church still shows today the typical marks of its original building, occurred on the XIII-th century, although the building subdued numerous restoration works along the XX-th century.

The interior of the church has just an aisle and shows a fine Baroque style. It is equipped with a chapel and a saddle roof with wood-made trusses.

Once entered to the Saint Francis Church it is possible to admire on the internal facade a "Saint Bernardine and Stories about his life", painted by an artist from Siena.

Close to the choir it is possible to see another fourteenth-century painting portraying a "Innocents' Massacre".

Inside the choister of the close convent it is also possible to admire a fine fresco by Francesco Nasini, portraying a "Stigmatized Saint Francis", and a cycle of fifteenth-century frescoes, portraying Marian subjects.
