Tourism in Sovicille

The Medieval village of Sovicille

The village of Sovicille rises in the rich wood vegetation of the Montagnola Senese and in ancient times it hosted on its territory up to fifty-five Medieval villages, of those ones today remains just an ancient circular ring of walls, some typical rural houses and numerous stone-made roads.

The most important religious building in the town is the Saint Lorenz Parish that rises in the very heart of the historic centre showing its new Gothic features and in whose inside it is possible to admire fine frescoes and paintings dating back to the XVI-th century.

Very suggestive is the visit to the "Ethnographical Museum of the Wood and the Sharecropping" placed in the close town of Orgia and that documents the agricultural and the mining history of the village. From the museum it is possible to take three natural courses in order to admire the beauty of the vegetation and the animals of the territory.

Close to the village it is also possible to reach the Saint John Baptist Parish, a Romanic building with three aisles. Its stone-made facade shows just a main portal and some decorations on bass-relieves.
